Let's be honest, who wouldn't want both a fulfilling life now and a secure future?

Welcome to the first edition of the Live Rich Retire Rich newsletter. I'm excited to embark on this journey towards financial freedom with you. In this newsletter, I will share my objectives and provide a glimpse into what you can expect over the next few weeks.

Who Am I?

I'm Najma Zanelli, author of MRS Independent, certified life and business coach. After spending two decades in Finance and Healthcare at Fortune 100 companies, I am passionate about helping people achieve lifelong well-being. As a mother of two, I faced the challenges of limited childcare options and the demands of a career. In May 2023, I took a bold step and started my own consulting business, applying my professional skills to optimize our family's finances. This has allowed us to maintain our lifestyle, and travel more on less income. Yes, you read that right- we do more with less! My mission is to empower you to enjoy a fulfilling life today while building a secure financial future. You ask how?

Why Did I Start This Newsletter?

I launched this newsletter to help you achieve financial freedom through practical education and sustainable lifestyle changes. My goal is to provide you with the tools and knowledge to master your finances, no matter the amount, because I believe the way you manage $20 reflects how you will manage $20 million.

It breaks my heart to see so many passionate entrepreneurs pour their heart, soul, time, and money into their businesses, only to neglect their personal finances. You deserve to live well, enjoy the fruits of your labor, save for emergencies, fund your children's education, and retire rich! Remember, no business is guaranteed to last forever. Diversify your investments and treat your business as part of a broader financial strategy.

My dad passed away at the young age of 69 from Parkinson’s disease, shortly after retirement. Along with my mom, he provided a rich life for six children in a high-cost city like NYC. We didn’t have luxury, but we were rich in values and experiences. Despite being a world-class chef, he rarely indulged in himself. He wouldn’t even buy himself a cup of tea or coffee when he was out. He invested heavily in our native country, Bangladesh, a place we seldom visit. I wish he had enjoyed more personal experiences and splurged on himself. Let’s learn from his story: enjoy life now while planning for the future.

People around the globe have similar stories, and we are grateful for our parents’ sacrifices. However, many have adopted a scarcity mindset around money, holding onto it for dear life. Limiting beliefs such as "money doesn’t grow on trees" and "we should work hard and save every penny in case of disaster" can be pervasive. On the other end of the spectrum, some spend like there is no tomorrow, splurging with credit cards and accruing massive debt to maintain a lifestyle they can't afford. The need to keep up takes a huge toll emotionally and mentally, and physically.

Let’s change the narrative and mindset around money. Money is energy, and it needs to flow. Have fun with it. I’m not saying to be irresponsible; be wise, live well, and have a savings strategy that allows you to even play with a small percentage of it and take big risks. It can be done! Keep following us, and I’ll show you how.

You Won the Lottery… Now What?

Imagine you’ve just won the lottery! Millions of dollars are about to be yours. Take a moment to think about how you would feel, what you would do with the money, and how it would impact your relationships with those closest to you. Write that down.

Consider These Questions:

  • How would the most important people in your life react if you won the lottery?

  • Is their reaction similar to or different from yours?

  • Would winning the lottery strain your relationship?

  • Share what you would do with the money.

  • Compare your beliefs and behaviors with those of an important individual in your life. Why or why are they not similar?

  • Would winning the lottery be a good or a negative thing for your relationships? Why or why not?

Why This Activity?

I start our journey with this activity because many people think, “If I only had more money, I would be so much better off.” But the reality is, if you are not managing your money well now, would you really manage more money better? Throughout the weeks, you will learn and develop new behaviors while engaging those in your life to do the same. You will notice an increase in your financial freedom because of the way you are managing your money, not because you have more money. This will be sustainable financial freedom!
